23.02.2016: Here we go. With the symbolic first cut of the spade, the Wertheim-based company König & Meyer officially broke ground for the construction of a new distribution center.
Construction should be completed by the end of the year; relocation is expected for spring/summer 2017.

It is a huge, important step forward and, at the same time, reminiscent of the past. With the construction of the new distribution center, for which the symbolic first groundbreaking in mid-February was intended, the company König & Meyer makes its return to Reinhardshof in Wertheim where its history began over almost 70 years ago before it evolved into a worldwide leading manufacturer of music accessories.

This step was considered and discussed for quite some time, said Gabriela König. The existing warehouse capacity is reaching its limits, according to the CEO. “Our variety of products has increased  severely in the  past years and continues to grow. Many products are becoming more  bulky; additionally, customers’ individualized requests are growing. Through the better availability of our products, we will be able to further ensure and improve our exceptional, customer-demanded supply capability.” As there were no opportunities for additional growth at the main  facility, König & Meyer looked for alternatives in Wertheim and finally found the right location nearby.

With a storage height of 7.5 meters, a capacity of  around 7,000 spaces for pallets, offices  and a parking  lot, the new  distribution center should be completed by the end of the year. After the relocation planned for spring 2017, roughly 25 current employees will work in the new facility. Changes are also expected at the main plant, announced Gabriela König. There will be more room for process adjustments in production. “Through certain restructurings we can achieve shorter methods of production and thereby a better production flow in order to keep working efficiently and effectively, as we will only be able to maintain our position in the market with first-class, high-quality products and excellent service. In the end, that will help us to remain competitive as well as to keep our jobs here in Wertheim ”, according to the CEO.
She states that the construction of the distribution center is the company’s biggest investment since the construction of Plant II in 1969, and will “last long into the future”. Everything builds on the first groundbreaking. “The foundation must be sound; the building must be fixed in the ground so that it stands stable. Similarly, a company needs just as much of a solid foundation.”

In a greeting, Stefan Mikulicz, the mayor of Wertheim, acknowledged the life achievements of Martin König, who celebrated his 80th birthday at the beginning of February and whose perseverance decidedly expedited the evolution of König & Meyer from humble beginnings. As before, Gabriela König emphasized to Mikulicz the good cooperation between the company and the local administration, who then praised the company’s demonstrated courage and the vision of those responsible.
